Albert E. Castle, Sr., 77, Topeka, passed away Friday, May 26, 2017.
He was born July 22, 1939, in Topeka, Kansas, the son of Roy, Sr. and Rose (Hooper) Castle. He graduated from Seaman High School. He enlisted in the Navy on June 1, 1961 and was deployed to the conflict of Bay of Pigs in the South coast of Cuba. He was honorably discharged on June 1, 1964.
Albert "Porky" was employed by the Topeka Fire Department for 24 years, retiring as Captain in 1990.
He was also a paramedic for 21 years and worked ambulance for 10 years.
He was a lifetime member of V.F.W. Post No. 1650 and American Legion Post No. 400.
Albert married Hazel M. Castle on August 20, 1994 in Topeka. She survives. Other survivors include his children: Leah Ralston, Linda Urton (Grant Vickery), Jason Castle and Albert "Bert" Castle, Jr.; seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; in-laws, Dale and Tina Patterson and special caretaker, Joseph Patterson and Chris Pacheco.
He was preceded in death by his siblings, Roy Castle, Jr., Jim Castle and Patricia Castle and his parents.
Albert enjoyed watching NASCAR and Wrestling. He coached girls' softball for 18 years and played fast pitch for 12 years.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at First Church of the Nazarene, 1001 SW Buchanan St., Topeka. Interment will follow with military honors at Emmanuel Cemetery. Albert will lie in state after 3:00 p.m. Tuesday at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel where the family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
