OBITUARY: Adolphus Howerton "Tom" Thomas
Adolphus Howerton "Tom" Thomas, 76, Silver Lake, died Thursday, Nov. 9, 2006, at Topeka Presbyterian Manor. He was born Oct. 16, 1930, in Topeka, the son of Adolphus Johnson and Mabel May (Howerton) Thomas.
Tom graduated from Silver Lake High School in 1948. He farmed in the Silver Lake and Rossville area until he retired in 1991. He enjoyed working on antique tractors and engines and his Model T Ford. He was a member of the Silver Lake United Methodist Church and the Antique Automobile Club of America, Topeka Region. For many years he served on the Silver Lake Drainage District and was the current president. He was a 50 year member, Past Master, and current Secretary of Lake Lodge # 50, A.F. & A.M.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Charles F. Thomas, on March 1, 2006. Surviving are a sister and brother-in-law: Louise A. and Dallas Todd of Carmel, Indiana; a sister-in-law: Nancy Thomas of Silver Lake; and 8 nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m., Monday, Nov. 13, 2006, at the Silver Lake United Methodist Church. Lake Lodge # 50, A.F. & A.M. will conduct Masonic Services at Silver Lake Cemetery.
Tom will lie in state after 1:00 p.m., Sunday, at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 N.W.
