Stanley Allen Thornburgh passed away on Monday, February 6, 2017 at his home in Topeka. Mr. Thornburgh was born April 15, 1938. He was raised at Nortonville, Kansas and graduated from high school there. He attended Baker University and KU. After college he sold insurance for a while. He went to work for Kinder Construction, later owned his own concrete construction company J&T Concrete that he operated until retiring in 1991. Stan and his wife enjoyed their retirement years traveling, playing golf, attending KU football and basketball games and spending time with their grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Stan and Polly were avid gardeners, receiving the grand prize award in the Topeka Beautification contest in 1984.
Stan was married to Pauline “Polly” Thompson on September 24, 1965 in Topeka, for nearly 50 years before she passed away on September 17, 2015.
Survivors include two daughters, Kim (Randy) Lesseski of Topeka and Jeri (Tim) Eckhardt of Auburn, Kansas; six grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren and one great-grandchild on the way; and his sister Leda Smith in Hiawatha.
Two brothers, Donald Thornburgh and Robert “Bob” Thornburgh preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Friday, February 10, 2017 at the Auburn Cemetery. He will lie in state on Thursday, Feb 9th at the Davidson Funeral Home from 1:00 pm until 7:30 pm where the family will receive friends from 6:30 to 7:30 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to Midland Hospice in care of the funeral home. The family will receive online condolences at www.davidsonfuneral.com
