Robert Leonard Zimmerman, 95, of Topeka passed away on December 1, 2016 at Lexington Park. He was born May 10, 1921 in Alta Vista, Kansas to Walter R. and Marion A. Brabb Zimmerman. He graduated from Alta Vista High School. As a young man, he and his dad raised purebred polled Hereford cattle. He was a hard worker and lists among his jobs a successful door to door Fuller Brush salesman, farmer, custom hay baler, construction worker, herdsman and in his later years, he was a sacker at Falley’s in north Topeka.
Bob was a charter member of Calvary Lutheran Church where he sang in the choir until he was almost 83 years old.
Bob was divorced and then married Ruth Ann Faulk in 1964. He is survived by his wife Ruth, of 52 years; children, Tony Zimmerman, Sandy Carter (Larry), Jeff Zimmerman (Brenda), Bill Akard, Donna Lambrecht (Randy), Kaye Holthaus (Ken), Bobbie Golder (Charlie), Duane Zimmerman (Connie), Judy Edwards (Jim); brother, Rev. Earl Zimmerman (Marilyn); numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and his sister-in-law Ina Zimmerman.
He was preceded in death by his son Brian Zimmerman; parents; sister, Dorothy Meier; and his brother, Charles.
The family will receive friends from 10-11 am on Monday December 5, 2016 at Calvary Lutheran Church, 4211 NW Topeka BLVD. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 am on Monday at the church. Interment will follow at Half-Day Cemetery at Elmont. Memorial contributions may be made to Calvary Lutheran Church or to Grace Hospice in care of Davidson Funeral Home.
