VIRGINIA “GINI” LEE (LAMB) NYSTROM, age 86, of Topeka, passed away Friday, November 25, 2016 at Midland Hospice House. Virginia was born December 19, 1929 in Elsmore, Kansas the daughter of Otho Lamb and Louise Proehl Lamb. She graduated valedictorian from Elsmore High School in 1947. She then graduated from Washburn University in 1988, Magnum Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communication Studies and was admitted to Phi Kappa Phi. She married Dr. Curtis A. Nystrom on August 14, 1949 in Elsmore, KS. He preceded her in death February 12, 1983. Through the years, she was employed as a school teacher, medical secretary and x-ray technician in her husband’s medical office. She served as President of the Shawnee County Medical Auxiliary and volunteered as a caller for the Catholic Charity, Ring-a-Day. In 1972, Virginia helped found and served for several years as President of the Topeka Women’s Aglow Fellowship and later was appointed as Women’s Aglow Northeast Area Vice-President, Regional Director and Advisor for the Girls and Teen Aglow. Virginia loved praying for family members and all those in need. She was on several prayer chains. She attended Topeka First Assembly of God and New Life Church, Women’s Connection and Bible Study Fellowship. She enjoyed playing the piano and bridge, reading, and watching the wildlife around her bird feeder. She was preceded in death by her parents, Otho Perry Lamb and Louise Pauline (Proehl) Lamb, her husband, Curtis Nystrom, brothers O.P. “Bud” Lamb and Elmo Lamb and sister Pauline Lamb. She is survived by her children, Kirk Nystrom (Karen) of Topeka, Valerie Nystrom Paine (Fred) of Goodyear, Arizona, Rocky Nystrom (LuAnn) of Lawrence, KS, grandchildren, Matthew Nystrom (Biviana), Anna Nystrom Canepa (Daniel), Fred Paine (Tracy), Rachael Paine Kristoff (Adam), Stephanie Nystrom Phelps (Cory), Emily Nystrom, Amy Nystrom and John Rock Nystrom, and great-grandchildren, Taylor Paine Bowden (Jeff), Jonathan Paine, Luke Paine, Adam Kristoff, Ethan Kristoff, Isaac Canepa, Oliver Canepa and Madison Nystrom.
Funeral Services will be Tuesday, November 29, 2016 at 10:00 am at Topeka First Assembly of God Chapel. She will lie in state Monday from noon – 5:00 p.m. at the Davidson Funeral Home. Interment will be at the Elsmore Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Topeka Rescue Mission or Global Missions (Haiti Relief) and sent in care of the Davidson Funeral Home. davidsonfuneral.com.
