Florence Mae Shuler

Florence M. Shuler age 77, passed away Tuesday, October 11, 2016 in Topeka. Florence was born May 11, 1939 in Valley Falls, KS the daughter of Edgar and Arlouine Collins Moore. She graduated from Valley Falls High School and moved to Topeka in 1957.

She married Richard Shuler February of 1958. They divorced in 1970 but remained good friends. She worked at the All American Restaurant and KNI for a short time before working at Hallmark Cards from 1970 – 1980. She then worked for Luce Press Clipping for over 20 years, retiring in 2004. She was a member of Asbury-Mt. Olive United Methodist Church in Topeka. She was also a foster mother for over six years.

While she loved the time she spent with her family, she enjoyed traveling just as much. Especially, to the casinos. She also enjoyed her soap operas taping them daily in the event she missed them and her computer games. While she didn’t care much for cooking, everyone loved her chicken n dumplings, meatballs, chicken wings and meatloaf. And while she didn’t cook it, she always loved a tender chicken fried steak and lobster tails.

She leaves to cherish her memory two sons, Richard and daughter-in-law Tanyia and Roger “Doug” Shuler, both of Topeka; two daughters, F. May and Bridgett Shuler, both of Topeka, her sisters, Darlene Montgomery of Topeka and Helen Roach of Willingboro, NJ; a brother, Edgar Moore, Jr. of Topeka; six grandchildren; LaTasha Shinn, Ian Shuler, Richard Shuler III, Keisheona Wilkins, Richele Shuler and Jeffery Wilkins and 11 great grandchildren. She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents & sisters; Rita Moore, Frances Crith and Joyce Byrd.



A Celebration of life will be held on Saturday Oct 22, 2016 at FOE Eagles Lodge at 2941 SE Fremont (29th & Fremont) Topeka, KS. Beginning at 5:00pm. Please come and share your memories with us. There will be a balloon release at dusk, please bring one for the celebration.
