Virginia Elizabeth Edds Hattaway (91) went Home to be with the Lord, Saturday, October 8, 2016. Born February 15, 1925 to Harvey and MaryLynne-Edds, along with six siblings, Bonnie, Harvey Jr., Lynn, Patty, Quentin and Little Larry, and Betty Schroeder was a very precious inclusion to this family; and her husband Cecil, both are deceased. Quentin,82 still survives with his wife, JoAnne, and lives in Puyallup, WA. Virginia graduated from Topeka High School in 1944 and attended Oakland Christian Church. She began working at the Powder Plant in Eudora, KS until the end of the war and peace treaty signed. Began working at Sante Fe in telegraph department and was head of Union in her department from 1945-1952. She was an Eagle member Auxiliary 4319. She then moved with Betty to Columbus, GA where she met her boss and future husband, Herman Randolph Hattaway; they moved back to Topeka in 1954. Herman went Home with the Lord 12/19/79. They had 3 children, Pamela Knight (married to Jeff), Sheila Armstrong (married to Marty) and Richard Hattaway --- who all reside in Fort Worth, Texas. Before her and Richard moving to Texas in 1987, she worked at Pelletiers Department Store, GNC, Vorse HVAC, Crescent Bus Service and General Nutrition Center in Topeka. She worked at Dillards Department Store in Texas until 10/31/97 when she retired. She then had more time to be “Grannie Ginny and GaGa” to her grandchildren Alexander-28, Taylor-23, Kerrigan-19, ShiAnne-18 (all of Texas), Michelle- Michael-40; and 7 great grandchildren (all reside in Topeka, KS). She did a lot of traveling – Hawaii (11 times); England, Colorado, Alabama, Washington state and many cruises! In 1986 she had a cervical stroke; in March of 2014 went into assisted living and was there until she quietly returned Home. We will miss “Smilee” (as she has been called too) so much!
Graveside services will be Saturday, October 15, 2016 at 12:00 noon at the Penwell Gable Memorial Park Cemetery. She will lie in state Friday afternoon from 1:00 – 5:00 p.m. at the Davidson Funeral Home. davidsonfuneral.com
