Norman “Homer” Higney, age 90, of Topeka passed away Sunday, August 21, 2016 at the St. Francis Hospital. Homer was born March 6, 1926 in Providence, Rhode Island to the parents of Wallace Higney and Helen Alexander Higney. Homer served in the U.S. Army during W.W.II with the 83rd Infantry and received three bronze stars. He worked as a carpet layer for McCormick in Topeka for over 30 years. He also worked for the City of Topeka with the Water Department and later for Goodyear. Homer was a member of the American Legion Post #400 and the V.F.W. Post #1650 of Topeka. He was preceded in death by a son, Bobby Bauer; a sister in law, Charlene Graham; a grandson, Jeff Bayer and a son in law, Gary Bayer. He is survived by his wife, Sharon Higney; daughters, Sandy Bayer of Topeka, Susan (Ron) Beasley of Mildred, KS and Tammi (Jon) Dove of Perry; sons, Dan (Tracie) Bauer of Topeka and Marty (Danielle) Mack of Desoto, KS; a brother, John Bagley of Columbus, S.C.; ten grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Thursday, August 25, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the Davidson Funeral Home. Visitation will be one hour before the services on Thursday at the funeral home. Interment will be at the Rochester Cemetery with military honors. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital and sent in care of the Davidson Funeral Home.
