John Thomas Butler Ii

May 4, 1953 — July 28, 2016

John T Butler II (Grand and Glorious Poobah) was a loving husband, father, step-father, grandfather, brother, and mentor to all. He went to his glory on July 28, 2016 at the age of 63, after a nearly yearlong battle with pancreatic cancer.
John was born May 4, 1953 to Avis Lehman and John T Butler. He was the youngest of four, living in Topeka throughout his childhood along with his parents and three sisters - Esther, Martha, and Sarah. He graduated from Washburn University in 1986 with a degree in Business Administration. For the past 13 years, John has been the owner of Benchmark Contracting (formerly Butler Enterprises). He was an avid fisherman, enjoying his trips to Grove, Oklahoma with his favorite fishing buddy, his wife Cathy...even if he didn't catch anything.
His faith was very important to John. He was active in Fairlawn Church of the Nazarene since 1997, acting as building caretaker, security, Stevens minister, Sunday School leader, choir member, and actor in the church's Christmas and Passion plays. He truly did everything for the church and his Lord.
John is survived by his loving wife of 24 years Cathy (McFarland); his children (from a prior marriage to Kathy Brayton) Ryan (Carla) Butler and Amanda (Jeremiah) Lutz; his stepchildren Thayne (Kelly) Barnett and Susie (Chris) Palmer; his grandchildren Gage, Cody, Madeline, Jonathan, Christopher, Devin, Riley, Jubal, Jadyn, and Miranda; and his sister Sarah (Paul) Saltzman.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, August 2, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the Fairlawn Church of the Nazarene. Visitation will be Monday, August 1st from 6-8 PM at Fairlawn Church of the Nazarene. There will be a private internment on Tuesday, August 2nd at Mount Hope Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions to Doorstep, Fairlawn Church of the Nazarene, and Midland Hospice Care and sent in care of the Davidson Funeral Home.
