Eugene Young

Eugene Young, age 80 of Topeka passed away Wednesday, June 29, 2016 in Topeka after a long illness. Gene was born January 11, 1936 in Selma, Alabama the son of Peter and Odell Bean Young. He served in the U.S. Army. Gene worked at Stormont Vail Hospital as the Assistant Director of Housekeeping for over 30 years. He was a member of American Legion Post #400. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Robert Eugene Young in 1957. He is survived by his wife, Angela Callahan of Topeka; two sons, Matthew and Brandon Young of Topeka; five daughters, Sharon Herndon (Herbert) of Houston, Katherine Young (Lawrence Byrd) of Wichita, Rebecca Brackett of Topeka, Allyson Young (Shaun Samples) of Topeka and Sarah Agee (Brandon) of San Antonio; two sisters, Lucille and Josephine; seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Gene was an avid gardener, and he also loved fishing and bowling.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at the Mt. Hope Mausoleum in Topeka. Visitation will be one hour before services at the mausoleum. Interment will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery.
