Donald Gene Phinney

Donald Gene Phinney, Sr. age 83, of Topeka passed away Monday, May 23, 2016 at his home in Topeka. Don was born July 13, 1932 in Barnes, Kansas the son of Howard and Helen Langner Phinney. Don served in the U.S. Air Force, serving in Korea. He married Genevieve Pappan December 24, 1952 at the Sewart Air Force Base in Tennessee. She preceded him in death October 8, 2004. He married Judy Foster June 2, 2007. Don worked as an electrician at Goodyear Tire in Topeka. He was a past member of the Oakland Church of the Nazarene and most recently the Victory City Church where he volunteered as caretaker of the grounds for many years. Don is survived by his wife, Judy Phinney of Topeka; three sons, Donald Phinney, Jr., Michael (Cheryl) Phinney and Ricky Lee Phinney, all of Topeka; a step son, Jay Corber of Topeka; two daughters, Jeanine (Tim) Kaberline, Teresa (none) Edwards, both of Topeka; a step daughter, Tammy Suhr of Fayetteville, NC; three brothers, Rodney Phinney of Independence, KS, Stanley Phinney of Branson West, MO and Denis Phinney of Hurley, MO; two sisters, Nola Herring of Topeka and Judy Grattan of Valley Center, KS; seven grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter. “PLAY BALL”
Funeral services will be Thursday, May 26, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at the Davidson Funeral Home. He will lie in state from noon – 8:00 p.m. with visitation from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. at the Davidson Funeral Home. Interment will be at the Topeka Cemetery.
