Warren Eugene Kinnett, 91, of Topeka, passed away on Wednesday, May 4, 2016. He was born April 26, 1925 in Topeka the son of Ira C. and Mary Frances Ward Kinnett. He graduated from Seaman High School and attended Washburn University. He served our country during World War II in Europe and was discharged with the rank of Sergeant. He was recalled and served during the Korean War, discharged as a Sergeant First Class. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Orient Lodge #51 AF&AM, Topeka Scottish Rite Bodies, Arab Shrine, Chanter Patrol VFW and Friends of the Library and Kaw Valley Woodcarvers.
He worked for the State of Kansas Department of Transportation starting in 1953. After his service he returned to the accounting department in 1946 and worked in several capacities until 1982. He was Program Manager for the federal program until retirement in 1987.
He married Lola I. Hoy on September 9, 1949. She passed away, May 28, 1977. Warren married Doris M. Powell Gilman on April 22, 1978. She survives at their home in Topeka. Also surviving are his children, Clayton Kinnett (Linda) of Topeka, Beverly Rice of Auburn and Steven Kinnett (Sheri) of Atwood, Kansas; one step-child, Jeanine Roberts (Tom) of Flemington, N.J.; Six grandchildren Courtney Kinnett, Stephanie Bartoli, Chelsea Kinnett, Joseph Kinnett, Jessica Nicholas, and Rachel Kinnett; Four step grandchildren John Roberts, Keri Anne Roberts, Christian Roberts, and Josiah Roberts; and a sister Doris Jean Palmberg (Jim) of Topeka; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am on Monday, May 9, 2016 at First Baptist Church. Military honors and interment will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the funeral service beginning at 9:30 am on Monday. Memorial contributions may be made to Shriner’s Handicapped Children’s Travel Fund in care of the Arab Shrine Temple or First Baptist Church.
