James E. Krieg, 91, of Topeka, died April 23, 2016 at Brewster Health Center. He was born in Topeka the son of William and Vonita Robe Krieg. He graduated from Topeka High School and attended Washburn University for a short time and went into the food store business with his father until he married Elma Rannebeck in Topeka in 1945. She preceded him in death on August 25, 2000. He and Elma had their own food store from 1945 until 1961. He then worked for the Fleming Co. for several years before moving to Denver to be General Manager for Associated Grocers of Colorado, Inc. He spent a short time in Alabama with Super Value Stores, Inc. They moved back to Topeka in 1974 and set up their own business as manufacture representative from which he retired.
He was a member of First Baptist Church where he served on many boards and committees. He also was a member of the Gideon’s International where he served in many offices and spoke in over a hundred different churches around the country. He also worked with Macedonia Ministries.
He married Ethel Moran on January 1, 2001. She preceded him in death on April 14, 2012. A sister Janet Wonderly also preceded him.
Survivors include one sister, Beverly Joy of San Luis Obispo, CA; two step daughters, Anita Brooks, of Topeka and Carolyn Thompson of Ava, Missouri; many nieces and nephews; as well as great-nieces and great-nephews; and several step grandchildren and step-great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm Thursday, April 28th at First Baptist Church in Topeka. The family will receive friend for one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church or to Gideons International in care of Davidson Funeral Home who is assisting the family.
