Helen Fairy Kirkwood was born December 12, 1922 in Topeka, the daughter of John and Fairy George Frey. She died March 21, 2016.
Helen attended Glen Valley Grade School and graduated from Silver Lake High School in 1941. She was united in marriage to Donald Raub Kirkwood on December 21, 1942. He died November 7, 2013.
Helen was employed by Hubener Care Home and Hilltop Packing Company. She volunteered at the Topeka Rescue Mission and was a lifetime member of Bethel Community church where she was also a member of the Club for many years.
Surviving are three sons, Richard Arlen (Darlene); Robert Merwin (Barbara); Lloyd Douglas (Lois); eight grandchildren, Roger (Melissa), Sally Brown (Virgil), Cindy Kavan (Joel); Paul and James; Raub (Kristin), Austin, and Laramie; and eight great-grandchildren, Nathan and Ethan, Cole and Claire Brown, Zoe and Noah Kavan; and Rylin and Kraton. Additional survivors are sisters Doris (Neal) Prochaska and Dorothy (Albert) Root. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Irene Kolde and Georgia Bentley, and an infant brother John Earl.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, March 26th at Bethel Community church, 6944 NW Landon Road. Visitation will precede the service from 9:00 am to 10:30 am. Burial will be in Prairie Home Cemetery. Mrs. Kirkwood will lie in state from 11-5 pm on Friday, March 25th at Davidson Funeral Home in Topeka.
