Elva Louise Banning

Elva L. Banning, age 88, of Topeka passed away Wednesday, March 16, 2016 at the Midland Hospice House in Topeka. Elva was born August 19, 1927 in Elk County, Kansas the daughter of Earl Hufford and Edythe Wade Hufford. She graduated from Appanoose High School. She later attended Clark’s Business College. She married Donald Banning June 9, 1944 in Ottawa, KS. He preceded her in death in 2008. She worked for KPL in Topeka in the accounting department for over 30 years. Early in their marriage, Elva and Don attended the Church of the Brethren. They then attended the Oakland Church of the Nazarene where Elva taught the two year old Sunday School class for 15 years. Most recently, Elva attended the Northland Christian Church. She was a 53 year member of the Meriden Eastern Star Chapter #399 where she served as past Worthy Matron; member of the Women of the Moose #555, Neighborhood Improvement Association, the Community Citizens Academy, Safe Streets and volunteered in multiple community activities. Elva was preceded in death by an infant son, Norman Earl Banning; a brother, Artie Hufford; a sister, Geneva Newkirk and an infant great grandson, Cooper James Lancaster. She is survived by a son, Howard Edwin Banning (Karen) of Cat Spring, Texas; a daughter, Karlin Elaine Price (Ed Jr.) of Topeka; 10 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren and 14 great great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, March 21, 2016 at the Davidson Funeral Home. She will lie in state Sunday from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Davidson Funeral Home with visitation from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Interment services will be Monday at 2:00 p.m. at the Appanoose Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Midland Hospice Care and sent in care of the Davidson Funeral Home. Online condolences may be made at davidsonfuneral.com.
