Norman James Peavler

December 26, 1926 — February 5, 2016

Norman James Peavler, 89, of Topeka, passed away Friday, February 5, 2016 in Overland Park, Kansas. Norman was born on December 26, 1926 in Silver Lake, the son of Sherman and Pearl (Ramer) Peavler. His parents moved to Topeka in 1929. His schooling was all in Topeka. He was inducted into the Army, March of 1945. He was stationed in the 295th Ordinance Co, at Karlsfield Germany. After being discharged he worked as a meat cutter for 44 years for Safeway, Tousley, and Tilton’s Grocery Store.
He married Patricia Ann Francis at the First United Methodist Church, August 7, 1949. She preceded him in death, June 18, 2008 along with a son Craig E. Peavler, his parents Sherman and Pearl Peavler, 5 brothers, Herbert, Clayton, Gerald, Clifford, Albert Peavler, and sister Vada Flanagan.
Survivors include a daughter Kathleen and her husband Steve Lawrence, a brother Clyde Peavler and his wife Charlene, 2 sisters, Peggy Ross and Wanda Johnson of Topeka, a grandson Matthew Peavler, a granddaughter Heather Westfall, 2 great grandsons, Landyn Westfall and Matt Peavler, a great granddaughter Katie Peavler and many loved nieces and nephews.
Norman was a Charter member of the Crestview Methodist Church, a life member of the V.F.W. Post 1650, American Legion Post #400. He had many hobbies such as collecting and running model trains. He was a member of Topeka Model Railroaders. He went on the WWII Veterans Honor Flight to Washington D.C. in June 2013.
A funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 10, 2016 at Crestview United Methodist Church. Visitation will be prior to the service 10:00a.m.-11:00a.m. Norman will lie in state from noon - 5:00 p.m. Tuesday at Davidson Funeral Home. Interment will be at Silver Lake Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Crestview United Methodist in care of Davidson Funeral Home.
