John "Lee" Hayes

June 28, 1930 — January 25, 2016

John Lee Hayes, 85, of Topeka passed away Monday, January 25, 2016. John was born June 28, 1930 in Manhattan, Kansas, the son of John W. and Meriam Alverta Pierce Hayes. He graduated Clay Center High school in 1949. John worked at several auto body shops and then went on to work at Goodyear Tire Company for 25 ½ years. He attended Assumption Catholic Church, and in later years attended Mother Teresa of Calcutta Catholic Church.
John is survived by two sons; Michael Hayes (Jane) of Wichita and John Hayes (Megan) of Topeka; two daughters, Mary Kay Patrick (Terry) of Harveyville, Marilyn O’Connell of Napa Valley, California; and eight grandchildren.
John married Jean Howley, December 15, 1952 in Clay Center. Mrs. Hayes passed away on May 23, 2015. Also preceding him in death are his daughter, Donna Patty Hayes and his sister, Vera Morr.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, February 1, 2016 at Mother Teresa of Calcutta Catholic Church in Topeka. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary in Topeka. Mr. Hayes will lie in state at Davidson Funeral Home from 1-8 on Sunday where a rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. with visitation to follow. Memorial contributions may be made to Helping Hands Humane Society and sent in care of Davidson Funeral Home.
