George William Simmons

George William Simmons Jr., age 76, of Topeka, passed away Tuesday, January 19, 2016, at his home in Topeka. George was born August 12, 1939 in Racine, Wisconsin the son of George Simmons Sr. and Goldie Matz Simmons. George served in the U.S. Air Force. He married Sue Hermann November 27, 1959 in Topeka. George worked at Goodyear Tire before working for Waste Management where he served as a general manager and also managed Rolling Meadows Landfill. George served as the Kansas Midwest Regional President of Waste Management, retiring in 1998. George attended Northland Christian Church. He was a member of the American Legion Post #400 in Topeka. He was preceded in death by a stillborn daughter, Tammy Sue. He is survived by his wife Sue Simmons of over 56 years; two sons, Monte Simmons (Lori) of Topeka and Scott Simmons (Lisa) of Topeka; two daughters, Kim Simmons of Topeka and Melani Heston (Bert) of Topeka; a brother, Roger Simmons of Warsaw, Indiana; 10 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Friday, January 22, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at Northland Christian Church. He will lie in state Thursday from noon – 8:00 p.m. with visitation from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Davidson Funeral Home. Interment will be at Penwell Gabel Memorial Park Cemetery with military honors. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association and sent in care of the Davidson Funeral Home.
