Shirley Burnett

Shirley Ann Burnett, 69, of Topeka passed away on Sunday, January 10, 2016 at Midland Hospice House in Topeka. Shirley was born October 8, 1946 at Beloit, Kansas the daughter of George and Henrietta Borger VanDergiesen. Shirley was raised between Cawker City and Downs, Kansas. Shirley graduated from Downs High School in 1964. Shirley attended Clark’s Business School in Topeka. She was married on May 5, 1967 in Topeka to Paul O. Burnett. Shirley worked for 44 years for the State of Kansas Social Services Department retiring as a facility manager. She was a member of the Sassy Stampers and a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include her husband Paul O. Burnett of Topeka; three brothers, Junior Vandergiesen and wife Marideen of Smith Center, Kansas, Gene Vandergiesen and wife Dee of Rock Valley, Iowa and Roger VanDergiesen and wife Kay of Cimmeron, Kansas; sister-in-lawn, Helen Melster and husband Toby of Hiawatha, Kansas, brother-in-law, Bill Bailey of Hiawatha and sister-in-law, Donna Bowers and husband Eddie of Junction City, Kansas.
A memorial service will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 16, 2016 at Trinity Presbyterian Church with the Reverend Kate Huddelson officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the Trinity Presbyterian Church.
