Teddy Dennis Timmons. 76, passed away the evening of January 6, 2016 at a local nursing facility following a short illness. Teddy was born in Topeka, KS on February 2, 1939 the son of Shedrick F. Timmons and Mable G. Foster .
He married Ethel Ilene Moore on October 30, 1978 in Concordia, KS. Teddy and Ilene originally met at the TARC Sheltered Workshop in the early 70’s and after their marriage they lived in Topeka where Teddy was employed by the City of Topeka as a custodial worker at the old Topeka Civic Auditorium.
Teddy attended school in Topeka and was a member of the TARC softball team in his younger years. Teddy and Ilene could be seen riding their bikes all over the city and enjoyed watching wrestling and car races. Attending car shows was one of Teddy’s favorite outings and he spent time assembling model cars in his leisure time.
Teddy was known for his smile, sense of humor and relentless teasing. He could make you laugh and made friends easily. One of his proudest accomplishments was his volunteer work with Let’s Help and he was an active and reliable volunteer there for nearly 17yrs., only recently giving up his volunteer work due to illness.
Over the years, Teddy received support from TARC, Sheltered Living and Sunflower Supports. He participated in social activities with these agencies, was active in Special Olympics and developed strong and long-lasting friendships. Two of his closest friends were Byron and Patty Barnhill and they visited often.
Teddy would always tell you that Ilene was the love of his love and he was the love of her life. People who knew them well were quite aware of the love and devotion Teddy showed for Ilene and how much they hated to be apart.
Teddy is survived by his beloved wife of 36 years and his dear cat, Sally, both of his home. He is also survived by two sisters, Marguerite Supernaw and Beverly Hendrix of Carbondale. He will missed by many, many, many friends.
Funeral service will be 3:00 p.m. Monday, January 11, 2016 at the Davidson Funeral Home , with visitation from 1:30 until start of service.
