Dorothy Sayles

Dorothy Sayles, 89, of Topeka passed away on Tuesday, January 5, 2016 at Stormont-Vail Hospital in Topeka. She was born January, 30 1926 in Saint Joseph, Missouri the daughter of Marion and Ruth Bingham. She graduated from Topeka High School. She worked for the Kansas Department of Health and Department of Vital Statistics prior to retiring in 1991. She was a literacy tutor, personal care giver, and Dorothy taught sewing at the Meriden 4-H Club. She taught Sunday school at the the reorganized church of Jesus Christ Later Day Saints for many years. She was a member of Community Church and the Senior Group. She was a member of the Red Hats. She loved to travel with her family.
Dorothy was married to Robert Dale “Bob” Sayles on April 7, 1951 at Ozawkie. Bob preceded her in death.
Survivors include her daughter, Ruth L. Norris of Topeka; son, Robert “Bob” K. Sayles and wife Shirley of Lyndon, Kansas; grandchildren, Gina Norris-Ray, Robin Norris-Courtot, Susan Williams and husband Mike, Elizabeth McKinley, Angela Cormier and husband Josh, Chad Walter, Harley K. Sayles, Dalayna Hicks, K.C. Majors and wife Nicole; 22 great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Evelyn Barngrover, Carolyn Ralph and husband Lee, brothers Kenneth Bingham.
Preceding her in death are her children Arthur Randolph, William Sayles and Judith McKinley; brothers, Neville Bingham, George Bingham, Jack Bingham, Robert Bingham, Sylvan Bingham and Allan Bingham; and her parents Marion and Ruth Bingham; one grandchild, Eric Lynn McKinley; one great-grandson, Brandon Michael Majors; and a great-great granddaughter, Jenyne Renai Trueblood.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, January 11, 2016 at Community Church in Topeka. Interment will follow in Rochester Cemetery. Mrs. Sayles will lie in state at Davidson Funeral Home from 1-6 on Sunday where the family will receive friends from 3-5 pm. Memorials to Community Church.
