Melba E. Yingling, age 96, of Topeka passed away Sunday, August 9, 2015 at Lexington Park Assisted Living in Topeka. Melba was born April 21, 1919 in Meriden the daughter of Bert and Grace Burge West. She graduated from Meriden High School and later attended Strickler’s Business School. She worked for the Kansas State Treasurer’s Office and later for the Secretary of State of Kansas. She retired from the Kansas Judicial Court in 1982. She married Johnnie George, they later divorced. She later married Dean Yingling March 4, 1950. He died in a car accident September 7, 1971. She was a member or the Meriden United Methodist Church.
She is preceded in death by a brother, Burton Burge West in August of 2003; two sisters, Freda Marie West Dean in May of 1956 and Doris Katheryn West Hallberg in August of 2009.
Melba had eight nieces and nephews which include: Suzanne Rippetoe Domme and husband William of Topeka, Jill Allison Hallberg Berg and husband Warren of South Lake Tahoe, CA, Rebecca West Rogers and husband Richard of Meriden and Cathy West Ritter and husband Butch of Baldwin City. Several great nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be Saturday, August 15, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at the Davidson Funeral Home. She will lie in state Friday from noon – 8:00 p.m. with visitation from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. all at the Davidson Funeral Home. Interment will be at the Meriden Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Midland Hospice Care and sent in care of the Davidson Funeral Home. Online condolences may be made at davidsonfuneral.com.
