Frederick Bruce Baenig

Frederick Bruce Baenig, age 69, of Topeka passed away Tuesday, June 2, 2015 in Topeka. Bruce was born December 3, 1945 in Wheeling, West Virginia the son of Frederick and Alberta Wise Baenig. Bruce graduated from Wheeling High School and received a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from West Virginia University in 1967. He married Kathi Rouse December 23, 1997 in Topeka. Bruce worked for AT&T for over 34 years, retiring in 2001. He then worked for Meals on Wheels in Topeka. He was a member of Tau Beta Phi National Engineering Society, Beta Kappa NU Electrical Engineering Society, AT&T Pioneers and the Kansas Avenue United Methodist Church where he was a Sunday school teacher and active with the choir. Bruce enjoyed traveling, hiking where he hiked the Grand Canyon rim to rim and many hikes in Rocky Mountain National Park, Great Smoky Mountains and several national parks in Utah. He also enjoyed biking, tennis and watching KU, WVU and WU sports.
Bruce is survived by his wife, Kathi of over 17 years; a daughter, Marie Haake (Mike) of Overland Park; a step son, Michael Rouse (Paula) of New Strawn, KS; two step daughters, Nicki Furuiye (Paul) of Aurora, CO and Becki Paton (Scott) of Lyman, South Carolina; three grandchildren and seven step grandchildren.
Memorial services will be Tuesday, June 9, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at the Kansas Avenue United Methodist Church. Visitation will follow the services at the church. Interment will be at the Greenwood Cemetery in Wheeling, West Virginia at a later date.
