Gaylen Sackman

Gaylen Sackman, 91, of Topeka passed away on Monday, April 27, 2015 at Lexington Park in Topeka. He was born September 12, 1923 at Cameron, Caldwell County, Missouri the son of Harry Bertsfield and Marjorie Corie Kemper Sackman. He graduated from Cameron High school in 1941. He farmed with his father until 1943.
He married Betty Marie Yoakum of Polo, Missouri on December 25, 1943. Gaylen farmed for a few years and then was in the restaurant business before moving to Topeka in September of 1950. Mr. Sackman worked for the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company and retired after 35 years, mostly in the earthmover division. Following retirement he drove an Activity Bus for USD #501, Tour bus for the King of The Road and drove cars for Ed Bozarth Chevrolet.
He was a longtime member of Highland Park United Methodist Church; United Rubber Workers Union and the Wingfoot Organization.
Mr. Sackman is survived by his wife Betty of Topeka; four sons, Dwayne Sackman (Karen) of Normal, Illinois. Dwayne’s family; grandson, David Sackman (Sara Johnson Sackman) and great-grandchildren, Haley Sackman and Gretchen Sackman of Cincinnati, Ohio; granddaughter, Katherine Pennington (Tim) and great-grandchildren Braden Welter and Addison Welter of Carlock, Illinois and step-greatgranddaughters, Morgan and Ryley Pennington of Carlock, Ill.; son Dennis Sackman (Debbie) of Vienna, VA, and granddaughter, Julia Rhinehart of Vienna, VA; son, Bruce Sackman (Joni) of Topeka, granddaughters, Jordan Imhof (Curtis) of Topeka and great-grandson Kobe Imhof and granddaughter Jenna Sackman of Topeka; and son Larry Sackman (Howard Reife) of Leawood, Kansas.
Gaylen was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Medille B. Sackman and sister-in-law, Barbara
Cremation is planned. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, May 1st at the chapel at Mt. Hope Cemetery. Mr. Sackman will also be inurned in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Midland Hospice.
