Maria Mendoza Weems

Maria Mendoza Weems, 79, of Topeka passed away on April 8, 2015. She was born April 9, 1935 in Manila, Philippines the daughter of Nickolas and Timotea Ramos Mendoza. She came to the United States in 1969. She was married to Beryl Weems on Oct. 5, 1969. Beryl served in the U.S. Air Force. She lived in Topeka since that time. Maria loved to play the lottery, especially scratchers. Maria loved to cook her traditional Filipino food. She loved the Syfy Channel on TV. Maria worked for many years at YCAT before retiring.
She is survived by her son, Wilfredo Javier, his wife Nancy and their son, Jeffrey; son Renato DelaCruz and his wife Sheila and their children, R.J. and his wife Cherryl, J.R., Marie, April and A.J. and R.J.’s daughter Yuri; son, Erick Weems, Sr. and his wife, Lisa and his children, Erick, Jr. and Mariah; son, Leonard Weems; son, Raymond Weems and his children, Anthony, Loren, and Tabor; daughter, Judy Weems-Dixon and her husband Desha and their children, Alesia, Miya, and JaCorey and Alesia’s daughter, Sanniya; her sister, Rosalinda Cabanag and many nieces and nephews who live in the Philippines.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, April 14th at True Light Baptist Church, 2046 SE California. Interment will follow at Topeka Cemetery. She will lie in state from 1-9 pm on Monday at Davidson Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Monday evening.
