Lloyd M. Jacques, age 89, of Topeka entered into eternal rest Monday, March 16, 2015 at the Topeka V.A. Hospital. Lloyd was born August 27, 1925 in Topeka the son of Julius B. and Myrtle M. Smith Jacques. He graduated from Seaman High School in 1943. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII from 1943 to 1946, where he survived the attack on the USS Bunker Hill near Okinawa, Japan, receiving the Presidential Unit Citation. He married Norma “Jeannie” Schoemaker on January 31, 1947 in Topeka. They enjoyed over 67 years of marriage until her passing July 26, 2014. Lloyd was a member of Grace Baptist Church where he sang in the choir. He worked for Capper Publications before opening and operating Lloyd’s Heating and Air Conditioning until his retirement. He enjoyed going to the casinos, good music and dancing, ice cream, but most of all, the time and memories made with family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Jeannie, infant son, Paul, three brothers and three sisters. He is survived by two sons, Darrell (Renee) Jacques of Holton and David (Vickie) Jacques of Topeka; six grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He is also survived by three sisters, Elizabeth Bennett of Ridgecrest, CA, Sallie Myer of Topeka and Judy Norris of Paola.
Funeral services will be Saturday, March 21, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the Davidson Funeral Home. Cremation will follow. He will lie in state Friday from noon – 8:00 p.m. with visitation from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. at the Davidson Funeral Home. Private inurnment will be at the West Lawn Memorial Gardens.
