Etta L. Tarwater

Etta L. Tarwater, 100, of Topeka passed away on Tuesday evening, February 24, 2015. She was born January 25, 1915 in Scott County, Arkansas one of eleven children born to Stonewall Essman and Emmaline Stites Essman. She married Jack Lewis, he preceded her in death in 1936. She then married John O. Tarwater Sr. July 8, 1939 in Topeka. He preceded her in death August 13, 1979.
She worked many years at the Topeka United Methodist Home and Tarwater Farm and Home. Etta was a member of Northland Christian Church and a former member of the North Topeka Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by a son, Jack H. Lewis in 1964; a daughter, Ruth Green in 1998 and a great grandson, Matthew Tarwater in 2007.
She is survived by four sons, John (Mary) Tarwater of Mansfield, Texas, Dick (Susan) Tarwater of Hoyt, Dr. Donald (Nancy) Tarwater of Hutchinson, KS and Steven (June) Tarwater of Lenexa; 14 grandchildren; 34 great grandchildren and 20 great great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Saturday, February 28, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at the Davidson Funeral Home. She will lie in state Friday from noon – 9:00 with visitation from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. also at the Davidson Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Topeka. Memorial contributions may be made to Grace Hospice Care or Northland Christian Church and sent in care of the Davidson Funeral Home.
