March 22, 1942 — February 19, 2015

Shirley Ann (Cox) Vazquez, 72, of Topeka passed away at Manor Care on Thursday, February 19, 2015. Shirley was born in Topeka, Ks on March 22, 1942. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Ralph Vazquez, loving father Ira Cox and mother Virginia Cox, and beloved sister Sharon Brockhoft. Shirley leaves to cherish her memory; two daughters, Denise (Tim) Bass and Kathleen (Paul) Swenson, 5 grandchildren; Brandie Sierra Martinez, Michael Russell, Roxanne Russell, Alicia Swenson, Crystal Bass; 8 great grandchildren, Madison Davis, Marianna Martinez, Ramsi Russell, Ronin Russell, Kadence O’Brien, Malulani Martinez, Raelyne Waetzig and Damien Waetzig; 3 sisters, Kay Burge, Joyce Cornett, Charlene Witters and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other living relatives and friends.
Shirley lived in California where she met, married and raised her family. She worked for Matel for 10 years where she often brought home test toys for her daughters to play with. She later worked for Hughes Air Craft for 15 years. Shirley moved back to Topeka in 1992 where she lived out some of her interests and activities which included cooking and spending quality time with her family. She enjoyed taking road trips, long drives, attending amusement parks. She loved her treasures and thrift store shopping. She collected hummingbirds and dolls. Shirley was a movie and music enthusiast. She would dance around the house and loved to salsa! If anyone needed to know trivia about movies or music, she knew it. She also knew everything about her family, including birthdays, marriages, and kept up to date with all goings on. She was a member of the Ladies of the Moose for 15 years. Shirley was a hopeless romantic and believed in family. She will be forever loved and eternally missed.
Memorial service will be held at 10:00 am on Monday, February 23, 2015 at Northland Christian Church. The family will receive friends from 3-4 pm Sunday afternoon at Davidson Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Midwest Brachial Plexus Network and sent in care of the funeral home. Her great granddaughter suffers from this birth injury for the rest of her life.
