Janice Ilona Jackson

Janice Ilona Jackson, age 92, of Topeka, died Monday, November 24, 2014 at Stormont-Vail Regional Medical Center in Topeka. She was born August 25, 1922 in Wilton, Illinois the daughter of August F. and Lillian Brown Woeltje. Janice graduated from Seaman Rural High School in 1940 and Clark’s School of Business. She worked as a secretary to the Treasurer of Seymour Packing Company during W.W.II. She then worked in the family business, Jackson’s Greenhouse from 1951 until 1989. She married Dwight S. Jackson November 22, 1942 in Topeka. He preceded her in death September 16, 2005 after 62 years of marriage. Her community service activities included Shawnee Jayhawkers 4-H Club where she served as a community leader, Shawnee County Master Gardener, a charter member of the North Topeka Historical Society, N.O.T.O.M.A., and North Topeka Kiwanis Club. She was a charter member of the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Topeka and was a member of Calvary Lutheran LCMS at the time of her death
She was preceded in death by brothers Fred and David Woeltje and sisters, Lorraine Shreffler, Izetta Osborne and Joyce Butterfield.
She is survived by two sons, David (Annette) Jackson, C. Fred (Sandy), both of Topeka and Reverend Paul (Beth) Jackson of Greeley, CO; a daughter, Marijean (Mark) Cockran of Ardmore, Oklahoma; 13 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. . She called her family a Christ-centered family.
Her fondest memories were of travels with her husband Dwight throughout the United States and four continents and time spent with her family.
Funeral services will be Saturday, November 29, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at the Calvary Lutheran Church. She will lie in state from 2:00 – 8:00 p.m. Friday at the church with visitation from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Interment will be at the Grantville Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Calvary Lutheran Church and sent in care of the Davidson Funeral Home. Online condolences can be seen at davidsonfuneral.com.
