Jack Ellis Blevins

(December 22, 1923 - November 19, 2014)
Topeka, KS- Jack E. Blevins, age 90, of Topeka, passed away peacefully Wednesday, November 19, 2014 at his home in the company of his loving wife of 50 years, Claudette and family.

Jack was born December 22, 1923 in Lawrence, the son of Clarence Blevins and Alice Clark Blevins. He graduated from Lawrence High School and enlisted to serve his country in the Army Air Corp. He served on Tinian Island in the Pacific during WWII as a B-29 Bombardier with the 9th Bomb Group on the B-29 named "Big Time Operator." After an Honorable discharge he attended KU where he graduated with a degree in Pharmacology. He was an avid KU fan and talked about watching the KU game the night he passed away.

He married Claudette Ferrell July 16, 1964 in Topeka, Kansas where they raised three daughters. Jack enjoyed spending time with them and his three sons.
Jack worked as a Pharmacist at Wild Willies, Revco and several other pharmacies in Topeka. He loved fishing, golf, hunting and wood working in his younger years. One of his favorite pastimes was to attend his girls' ball games and in recent years grand kids ball games, cheering them on through his plastic megaphone. He loved watching his children and grandchildren grow and excel in their lives. He was proud of his family and always taught us "nothing is more important than family," a lesson engrained from his mother who raised him.

He also loved the United States and taught his children to be proud and have a love for country. On August 22, 2012 he was an Honor Flight Recipient and enjoyed a beautiful day in DC with his daughter Lisa, as his guardian and his friend and crew radio operator Bill Hargett. Following his flight he attended several functions and spoke to many people about his experience. He had hoped to recruit others so that they may be properly honored in Washington DC.

Jack was preceded in death by his mother Alice Blevins, son, Rick Blevins, brothers, Albert, John & George Blevins and a sister Edith (Moore) Blevins.

Jack is survived by his wife Claudette, two sons, Greg (Patti) Blevins of Phillips, Maine and Brett Blevins of Wichita; three daughters, Kim (Mike) VanSickle of Letts, Iowa, Lisa (Matt) Bohm of Auburn, KS and Mindy (Mike) Wagner of Ogden, Iowa; a sister, Deanie Singer of Denver; 18 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
