Winifred “Miss Winnie” Hackel Myrick, age 86, of Topeka passed away October 21, 2014 in Topeka. She was born July 25, 1928 in Topeka the daughter of William Short and Winifred Cross Short.
She married Howard Hackel in 1946, he preceded her in death after 51 years. She then married Robert “Bob” Myrick. He survives. Other survivors include 2 daughters, Becky Howell and Lindy Myer; 2 step daughters, Barbara Williams and Cheryl White; 5 grandchildren, April (Mark) Carr, Whitney Howell, Brandon Howell, Anthony Myer and Richard (Rachael) Myer III, ; 1 step-grandson, James Simpson; 1 great-grandson, Dylan Carr and 1 great-step-granddaughter, Morgan Simpson. Winnie loved cross word puzzles, sewing and testing her luck at the casinos. "Winnie was an avid Royals and Chiefs fan. She was a member of the Eastern Star. She would always say "I need to put my face on". And she loved all of her family dearly.
Funeral services will be Thursday, October 30, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at the Davidson Funeral Home. She will lie in state Wednesday afternoon from noon – 5 at the Davidson Funeral Home. Interment will be at the Penwell-Gable Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial contribution may be made to the Shriners Children’s Hospital and sent in care of the Davidson Funeral Home.
