Nora Inez Gridley, Waukee, IA formerly of Topeka, Kansas
Nora Inez Heberling Gridley, 94, passed away August 23, 2014 in Dallas Center, Iowa. Nora was born at home in Overbrook, Kansas, on July 31, 1920, to Dewey Heberling and Susie Firestone Heberling. She moved to Topeka at age two. She graduated from Topeka High School, during which time she was the nanny for the children of the THS principal. She married Valore Gridley, was blessed with two daughters, worked as a waitress, accountant and gift shop manager. First and foremost in her life was being a Christian and her baptism at age 12. She was a life long member of the Church of the Brethren. Nora enjoyed singing, piano, quilting, visiting, living in Oakland, fishing, camping and gardening.
She is survived by her daughters, Marcene (Howard) Kempke of Marquette, Kansas and Beverly (Rod) Stark of Urbandale, Iowa; granddaughters, Christine (Matt) Jacobs of Gardner, Kansas Susan (Tony) Stark Johnson of Lincoln, Nebraska and Anne (Corey) Soppe of Van Meter, Iowa; great-grandsons, Dylan and Collin Jacobs of Gardner, Kansas and Logan and Easton Soppe of Van Meter, Iowa; brother, Don (Helen) Heberling of Topeka, Kansas. She was preceded in death by her husband Valore and sister Mildred Woollard.
A memorial service will be Saturday, September 6, 2014 at 11:00 a.m., at the Topeka Church of the Brethren (3205 N.W. Rochester Rd, Topeka, Kansas 66617)with burial following at Penwell Gabel Memorial Cemetery (3616 S.W. 6th Avenue, Topeka, Kansas 66606). All are invited and welcome to attend. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Topeka Church of the Brethren in lieu of flowers. Davidson Funeral Home is handling local arrangements.
