Al Westling, 93, of Topeka, KS, passed away June 16, 2014. Al was born August 25, 1920 to Albin and Stella Spurrier Westling. He graduated from Topeka High School and Pittsburg State University. Al married Charlene Williams on July 12, 1959. He worked for Brackett, Inc., Hydra-Tool, and retired as an industrial arts teacher from Royal Valley High School. Al was a member of Second Presbyterian Church. His hobbies included woodworking, raising and showing pigeons and Bantam chickens.
He served his country in the Army during WWII. He was awarded the Purple Heart for being combat wounded. Al was preceded in death by his wife; brother, Clair, and sister, Margaret Ellen.
Survivors include two sons, William (Tracey) Westling of Gladstone, MO, Christopher (Diane) Westling, and one daughter, Elizabeth Westling, all of Topeka., 4 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren.
Al resided at Rolling Hills Assisted Living for the last 5 years. The family appreciates the care and support provided by the Rolling Hills staff and Midland Hospice. Memorial Services will be held Saturday, June 21 at 10:30 a.m. at Second Presbyterian Church. Memorial contributions may be sent to Second Presbyterian Church at 210 N.W.
