Betty Lue Johnson age 92 of Topeka died Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at a Topeka nursing home.She was born November 19, 1921 in Wamego the daughter of Elmer and Belle Ziegler Holly.
She was employed by Peckham's and Paramore grocery stores until her marriage to Emery Johnson on October 17, 1943. They had a son Larry Johnson. Both preceeded her in death.
Betty volunteered at St Francis hospital 26 years. She received numerous awards including the city wide volunteer of the month. She was a life member of VFW Post 1650 auxiliary where she organized their annual thrift sale and worked the bingo kitchen several years. She also volunteered for the Red Cross and the V.A. Hospital and was also a member of the American Legion Post 400 auxiliary.
Survivors include Carolyn Mattice and Judy Whisler, several grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at the Topeka Cemetery. She will lie in state Monday from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Davidson Funeral Home.
