Jack M. Oliver, Sr., 95, of Topeka passed away on Monday, May 26, 2014. He was born April 15, 1919 at Hoover, Texas the son of Tom and Lillian Cartlage Oliver. Jack was raised and graduated from high school at Canadian, Texas. Jack joined the Army Air Corps before World War II and served in the United States Army for 10 years and later the United States Air Force 16 before retiring in 1966 while stationed at Forbes Air Base. After retiring from the service he worked at Industrial Chrome for 10 years. After that he worked part-time for U-haul. He worked until he was 80 years old. Jack enjoyed playing cards and doing word searches which helped keep his mind sharp.
He married Sarah N. “Sue” Oliver on April 9, 1955. She preceded him in death on December 3, 1998.
He is survived by his daughters, Naomi Needham and husband Ellis of Wakarusa, Kansas and Sharon Coppinger of Quincy, Illinois; sons, Jack Ledbetter in California and Scott Oliver and wife Tina of Topeka. Jack was preceded in death by three brothers, four sisters and five children.
Graveside services and military honors will be conducted at 2:00 pm Thursday, May 29th at Topeka Cemetery Garden Chapel. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:30 pm on Thursday at Davidson Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to Midland Hospice Care, 200 SW Frazier Circle, Topeka, Kansas 66606.
