Charlene Kaye (Larkin) Parker, 78, passed away on Tuesday morning, April 1, 2014 at Topeka Presbyterian Manor. She was born March 1, 1936, in Florence, Kansas the daughter of Charles and Pauline (Lowther) Larkin. On June 8, 1963, she married Marvin Parker at Florence Christian Church. Marvin preceded her in death on July 23, 2001.
Charlene graduated from Florence High School with the class of 1954. She went on to earn a B.S.E. in 1958 from Kansas State Teachers College of Emporia. She began her teaching career at Fredonia High School, moving to Highland Park Junior High and then to Eisenhower Junior High. In 1973 she began teaching in the Seaman School District, first at Logan Junior High and then transferring to Seaman High School for the 1978-79 school year. She retired from teaching in 1993. During her teaching career, Charlene sponsored and was part of many school activities. She was a cheerleader sponsor, softball coach, and head scorekeeper for many athletic events. There were not many tasks that Charlene turned down.
Marvin and Charlene were longstanding members of Northland Christian Church.
Survivors include her son, Jeff Parker, and his fiancé, Misty Bowman; her daughter, Alison Davis and her husband Michael; and three special granddaughters, Samantha, Jessica and Alyssa Davis. Charlene is also survived by her brothers, Jack Larkin, and Ron Larkin and Ron’s wife Georganna; sister-in-law Doris Maxine Bervert; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at Central Park Christian Church, 1535 SW Clay in Topeka on Friday, April 4 th at 1:30 p.m. The family will receive friends from 7-8 pm Thursday evening at Davidson Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to Topeka Presbyterian Manor or to Midland Hospice in care of Davidson Funeral Home, 1035 N. Kansas Ave. Topeka, Kansas 66608.
