Evelyn M. Stewart (Pearson) (LeMere) was born 8/24/1923 in Alta Vista KS. She was the daughter of Loren and Abby Irene Stewart. She was the fifth of their nine children: Rosa Stewart Bittenbender, Mack Stewart, Juanita Stewart Couch, Zelma Stewart Christian, Evelyn Mae Stewart LeMere, Betty Stewart Dillon, Bill Stewart, Paula Stewart Crumley, and Ron Stewart.
She married Ralph E. Pearson and they were the parents of 4 children:
Larry Gene Pearson, wife Janet, Manhattan KS
Pamela Mullins, Topeka KS
Lana Meier, husband Vince, Topeka KS
Julie Patterson, deceased, Manhattan KS, Garry Patterson widower
They were later divorced and Ralph deceased in 1955. She married Clifford E. LeMere in 1952. He was killed in action in the Korean War.
Evelyn is survived by nine grandchildren: Lex Pearson, Christopher Meier, Heather Mullins, Wade Mullins, Cameron Gooden, Colby Peet, Chad Mullins, Mitchell Patterson, and Nicholas Patterson. She is also survived by 17 great-grandchildren: Jonnathan Pearson, Taylor Pearson, Kennedy Meier, Mason Meier, Chelsea Obregon, Tanner Kinney, Bradi Kinney, Cole Gooden, Beau Gooden, J.T. Gooden, Lake Peet, Michaela Mullins, Amberlyn Mullins, Lauryn Mullins, Hadley Patterson, Truman Patterson, Elliana Patterson. She was known as “Momo” to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as many who though not her biological kin felt as though she was their grandmother.
She is also survived by brother Bill Stewart, wife Dorothy, Roseburg OR, Paula Crumley, Topeka KS, Ron Stewart, wife June, Junction City KS.
Evelyn was a teletype operation for B.C. Christopher and A. G. Edward stock exchanges for many years. She later provided child care and elder care for several Topeka families. She was an avid quilter for many years and her children and grandchildren were the recipients of beautiful quilts she handcrafted. She loved to dance and many will remember when she clogged on picnic tables at family reunions. She loved children and they returned that love.
Cremation has taken place. Burial will be private. A memorial service is scheduled for January18, 2014 at 11:00 am, at Davidson Funeral Home, 1035 N. Kansas Avenue, Topeka KS. The family will receive friends for an hour before and following the service.
In lieu of flowers donations will be appreciated to Midland Hospice Care, 200 SW Frazier Circle, Topeka KS 66606 and to the American Cancer Society.
