Daniel Howard Buchanan, 69, was taken up to be with his Lord on Saturday, January 4, 2014. Dan was born on April 7, 1944, in St. Joseph, Mo. He was the son of Howard G. Buchanan and Virginia Coffman Buchanan. As a youngster, Dan bicycled his way through the hills of Krug Park every summer day to the ball diamond to play baseball. He attended Wyatt Park Christian Church with his family and was baptized as a young boy. About 1953, his Dad was transferred to Topeka, Ks. and they moved into a new home on Menninger Road. He attended Rochester Grade School and graduated from Seaman High School. He attended Ks Vo-Tech and later became an advisor for their automotive department. During his youth, he received achievement awards for rifle & archery marksmanship. His love for the outdoors deepened and was an avid hunter and fisherman. In 1962 he began his career as an automotive machinist for NAPA and became a Certified Automotive Engine Rebuilder for 39 years. He grew the machine shop from a small two room shop to a 3,000 sq ft. building known as Auto Parts Machine and became one of the largest automotive machine shops in northeast Kansas servicing customers and farmers in Kansas, Nebraska and Missouri. His next endeavor in 2000 was becoming a Real Estate Agent working for Countrywide Realty, Inc. where his sales achievement awards remained in the top 10% -20% for sales and received the Masters Club Award in 2011 of the Topeka Board of Realtors. He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Lynda Buchanan. Other survivors include a sister, Diane Jordan Topeka; a niece, Tammy (Tom) Tork Topeka; nephews, Tim Jordan (Laura) and Terry Jordan (Esther) Grand Rapids, MI; and several great nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Wednesday, January 8th from 6:30 to 8 p.m at Davidson's Funeral Home. Celebration of life memorial service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 9 at 11a.m. at Central Park Christian Church. (There will be no graveside service.) Dan was an active member of Central Park Christian Church. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial contributions be sent to Central Park Christian Church Building Fund.
