Betty Jane Severtson, age 78, of Topeka, passed away Friday, January 3, 2014 at her home in Topeka. Betty was born September 8, 1935 in Iowa City, Iowa the daughter of Sherman Carlton and Edna Parker Cartlon. Betty was raised in Vinton, Iowa by her maternal grandparents Fred Parker and Lottie Posekany Parker. Betty married Marvin Severtson June 6, 1975 in Topeka. He preceded her in death on December 22, 1999. She is survived by four children, Bonnie Florez (Paul), Billy Comp (Mary), Larry Reid (Lori), and Kristy Workman (Donnie Rayls), all of Topeka; 8 grandchidren, Brian Servantez, Susan Reid Schmitz, Michael Comp, Brandy Workman, Sean Florez, Shelly Workman Lester, Larry Reid Jr., and Mindy Comp Warren and 14 great grandchildren. Betty was a member of the Bulldozer Camping Club, a volunteer for KSVP at Pappen’s Senior Center and also worked for Head Start program for 5 years. Betty was a member of the Second Presbyterian Church for over 30 years. Betty met and made many friends within the twenty-eight years she sold Avon.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, January 8, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at the Davidson Funeral Home. She will lie in state Tuesday from noon – 8:00 p.m. with visitation from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. also at the Davidson Funeral Home. Interment will be at the West Lawn Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to the Helping Hands Humane Shelter and sent in care of the Davidson Funeral Home.
