Nyla Faye Shoemaker

Nyla Faye Shoemaker, age 75, of Topeka, passed away Wednesday evening, December 12, 2013 at the St. Francis Hospital. Nyla was born January 21, 1938 in rural Warren, Arkansas the daughter of William Braska Savage and Eula Gladys Smith Savage. She graduated from Sheriden High School in 1956 and attended Hendrix College at Conway as well as SMU in Dallas. She married Eugene Shoemaker August 17, 1958 in Sparkman, AR. Nyla was involved with the Topeka Rescue Mission for over 3 years. She was a past member of the Faith Temple God in Christ Church in Topeka. She also was a member of the Women Aglow organization. She is survived by her husband of over 55 years, Eugene Shoemaker of Topeka; a son, John Barth Shoemaker of Overland Park, KS; a daughter, Karen Mast (Steve) of Columbus, OH; a brother, Royce Savage (Sylvia) of Tyler, TX; 4 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at the Central Presbyterian Church in Topeka. She will lie in state Tuesday from noon –5:00 p.m. at the Davidson Funeral Home in Topeka. Interment services will be at the Rochester Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Topeka Rescue Mission and sent in care of the Davidson Funeral Home.
