Calvin L Henderson

Calvin L. Henderson, 78, of Topeka passed away at his home on Saturday, December 7, 2013. He was born March 13, 1935 at Valley Falls, Kansas the son of Raymond F. and Ruby (Cook) Henderson. He graduated from Topeka High School in 1953. Calvin had a long career, 44 years, with the state of Kansas. He worked his way up from pressman to a supervisor with State of Kansas, Division of Printing before retiring in 1995. Calvin also retired from the Kansas National Guard after 24 years, also in 1995. He was a volunteer fireman for Soldier Township for 30 years. The township fire department honored his service by retiring his badge number forever. He was a member of Post #400 of the American Legion and a longtime member of North Topeka Baptist Church.
Calvin married Hazel Hohberg on March 25, 1956 at North Topeka Baptist Church. They were blessed to share 57 years together. She survives at their home. Other survivors include, two daughters, Kristi Lee Patch (Tim) of Topeka and Kathae Louise Cheray (David) of Richmond, TX; grandchildren, Ashlyn Lanora Yarnell of Shawnee, Kansas, Brandi Louise Bird of Topeka, Cassidy Herrick Cheray of Wichita and Darren Lee Bird of Topeka; two sisters, Twilla Winn (Larry) of Belton, MO and LaVonne Fascindini of Vancouver, WA.
Mr. Henderson was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Bill, Bob, Raymond, Jr., Norman and Marceil.
A celebration of Calvin’s life will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, December 14th at North Topeka Baptist Church. Casual attire is preferred. Prior to the service the family will receive friends beginning at 9:00 a.m. until the service hour.
