Eliza Peaches Holmes

Eliza “Peaches” Holmes, age 86 of Topeka passed away Saturday, November 23, 2013 at McCrite Plaza. She was born November 4, 1927 in Longview, Alabama the daughter of Samuel Dowdell and Alice Posey Dowdell. She grew up in Alabama. She married Jewell Holmes November 27, 1943 in Birmingham, Alabama. In 1944 they moved to Topeka and she worked at Menninger’s Foundation. She worked there for 25 years. She was preceded in death by Jewell in 2008 and two sisters, Ann P rice and Luvenia Studimeyer. She is survived by a daughter, Shari Holmes of Topeka; a brother, Johnny Ray and a sister, Alma Holyfield, both of Alabama and a Godson, Steve Bowman of Topeka. Peaches was an longtime member of the Antioch Baptist Church where she served on the usher board for over 13 years.
Memorial services will be Wednesday, November 27, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at the Antioch Baptist Church. Memorial contributions can be sent to the Antioch Baptist Church and sent in care of Shari Holmes.
