Michael Joseph Guenther, 65, of Topeka passed away on November 18, 2013 at St. Francis Hospital in Topeka. He was born April 17, 1948 at Leavenworth the youngest of five children. He grew up on farms in the Leavenworth and St. Joseph area, later graduating from Immaculata High School in Leavenworth. Michael went on to serve his country in the United States Marine Corp during the Vietnam War. He was a custodian at Immaculata for 21 years before suffering a heart attack in 1991. He moved to Topeka and attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church, and a member of the American Legion.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Grace Guenther; and his siblings, John, Loretta, Margaret and Janet.
Mr. Guenther will lie in state Thursday, November 21, 2013 from Noon to 5:00 p.m. at the Davidson Funeral Home.
Mass of Christian burial will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Topeka on Friday, November 22, 2013 at 10:00 am. Graveside service and military honors will be conducted at 2:30 pm Friday at Leavenworth National Cemetery.
