Mabel R. Davis

Mabel R. Davis, 89, passed away on Sunday, October 13, 2013. She was born July 6, 1924 in Courtland, KS to Clarence H. and Lorine R. (Erickson) Aspegren. Mabel was raised in the Courtland area before moving to Topeka to work at the supply depot at Forbes in 1944. Mabel married Ervin M. Davis on August 30, 1946 at First United Methodist Church in Topeka. She was a member for many years of the Central Park Christian Church before joining Berryton United Methodist Church in 1976. At Berryton United Methodist she was a member of the Ruth Circle of the United Methodist Women. Mrs. Davis was a member of FCE for over 50 years. She worked for over 30 years as a sales clerk at Vincent’s Western Wear before retiring. Mabel’s husband Ervin was a member of the Sherriff’s Mounted Posse and they rode in area parades through the years. She was a active in several sewing and card clubs. After retiring, Mabel was a member of the Friends of the Topeka Zoo.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 2004 and daughter Janet L. Coffman in 2011.
Mabel is survived by a son Robert E. Davis (Linda) of Topeka; two daughters, Pat Toda (John) of Topeka and Rhonda Atkins (Jerry) of Berryton; two siblings, Helen Cook of Mesa, AZ and Delbert Aspegren (Norma) of Scandia, KS; one son-in-law, Kenny Coffman of Wellsville; 12 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 16th at 2:00 pm at Davidson Funeral Home. Interment will follow in West Lawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 1-2 pm on Wednesday prior to the service. Mrs. Davis will lie in state on Tuesday, Oct. 15th from 12:00 to 6:00 pm at the funeral home.
