Alice M. Payne

Alice M. Payne, age 65, of Topeka, passed away Wednesday, September 25, 2013 at a Topeka care facility from complications of a fast moving and aggressive cancer. in Topeka. Alice was born September 30, 1947 in Ft. Scott to Manuel Comer Payne and Isabelle Marie Anderson Payne.
Alice moved to Topeka around 1958 after her parents divorced and her mother remarried. She was a member of Covenant Baptist Church.
Alice was preceded in death by her father, Manuel of Ft. Scott in October 1976; her mother, Isabelle Cobler of Topeka on March 15, 1971; half-brothers, William F. Payne of Rockland, MA on May 30, 2003 and Charles E. Payne of New Haven, MI on August 14, 2005; step mother, Lily May (Hutchison) Oram of Mansfield, OH about June 4, 1972 and step-father, Lyle LeRoy Cobler of Topeka November 27, 1998.
Alice married Donald L. Smith of Topeka and they later divorced on May 29, 2001. She is survived by a son, James Payne; 2 brothers, Lawrence “Larry” R. Cobler of Topeka and Dale Lee Cobler of Elizabethtown, KY and several nieces and nephews; 2 grandsons and a special friend and caretaker, Marie Proto.
Graveside services will be Wednesday, October 2, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at the Topeka Cemetery. She will lie in state Tuesday from noon – 5:00 at the Davidson Funeral Home.
