Mildred Hillman, 93, of Topeka, passed away September 2, 2013, at Presbyterian Manor. Mildred was born in Fostoria, KS, March 28, 1920, along with her twin sister Winifred Christianson who preceded her in death in 1977. They were the daughters of Floyd and Flossie Carr. Mildred graduated from Fostoria High School and moved to Topeka in 1940 where she met and married the love of her life, Verle Hillman, they were married for 59 years before Verle died in 2001. They had two children, three grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. Verle and Mildred loved to travel and enjoyed many trips together; they also enjoyed dancing and spending time with their many friends. Family was always at the center of all her thoughts and activities.
Mildred worked as a medical assistant for 30 years and retired in 1985. She was a member of Northland Christian Church, the American Legion Auxiliary Post #400, and the Women of the Moose. She volunteered at the Veterans Administration Hospital.
Mildred was preceded in death by her son Gary Hillman, her parents, her twin sister, and her brother Floyd J, Carr. She is survived by her daughter, Sharon Groff and husband, Ron Sheldon of Ozawkie, KS, her daughter-in-law Linda Hillman of Pittsburgh, PA, grandchildren, Richard Groff Edwardsville, KS, Pamela Johnson, Topeka, and Craig Sheldon (Sherrall) of Topeka, KS, great grandson, Heath Johnson, US Navy, Yokosuka, Japan and great granddaughter Christin Sheldon of Topeka, KS, sisters Dorothy Halstead (Ken) of Topeka and Ramona Moeller of Devil’s Lake, ND.
Funeral services will be held at Davidson Funeral Home on Thursday, Sept. 5, 2013 at 11 AM, with visitation being held before the service from 10-11 AM. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made in care of the funeral home to Presbyterian Manor. Online condolences can be left at davidsonfuneral.com.
