Lavon Emalie Metzger

LaVon Metzger, age 87 passed away Thursday morning. LaVon was born January 13, 1926 in rural Grove County, near Ransom, Kansas the daughter of Artie Mead and Theresa Schreiber Mead. LaVon married Hilton Metzger July 4, 1944. He preceded her in death in April of 1989. She taught school in Waverly, Kansas in the elementary school after attending Emporia State Teachers College. LaVon and Hilton enjoyed square dancing. They were often seen at the Croco Square Dance Club and were members of the Wheat Hearts and Strato Jets clubs.
LaVon is survived by two daughters, Twila Gillespie of Topeka and Rayna Smith of Carbondale; five grandchildren, David Studebaker, Raylene Wallace, Bradley Studebaker, Pamela Sue Carter and Tricia Ann Frye. Also surviving are 9 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
Graveside services will be Monday, August 12, 2013 at 1:30 p.m. at the Meriden Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be sent to the Davidson Funeral Home to assist the family with funeral expenses.
