Some favorite memories are always dressing up for Halloween with Johanna and buying gourds for her class at Halloween time and going on field trips, Michelle remembers sleeping under her kitchen table like it was a tent and William favorite time with her were easter egg hunts and the smell of her perfume. Lois remembers as a child watching her getting ready for work, feeling her hose, and smelling her hairspray and watching her put on makeup. Lois remembers her taking her kids to see the ducks at Gage Park and always bringing little surprise’s to the kids. “Moms hands were my favorite memory of her. I have pictures that I think it’s my hand but it’s hers. She always had a gentle touch, but very hard working. She tried really hard to do better than her parents, and she succeded with me.” Martha also remembers mom getting ready to go to work at night, her white uniform starched and her hair and makeup perfect. She loved pictures and mementos. She had pictures and small gifts from all the grandchildren everywhere. This resulted in a large and interesting collection. They were her tresures. Her cousin Junie remembers picking peaches with her, picking peas and shelling them and going to the outdoor movies with her, sitting in the grass without an adult with them. Martha remembers her Mom for the gifts she would give at Christmas or birthday’s, giving a small gift to a grandchild, but also getting them a new coat, or something they really needed. Nancy knew what it cost to raise a family and she went above and beyond making sure she could help her kids raise their families in little ways that maybe always don’t get noticed.
