Barbara J. Hansford of Topeka passed away on May 11, 2013. She was born October 11, 1926 on the Joe Woody Farm in rural Wabaunsee County in the Snokomo community the daughter of George O. and Edna S. (Woody) Kasson. She had lived in Topeka most of her life. Barbara attended Seaman schools. She was married to Clarence A. Hansford on May 1, 1941 at Lyndon. Clarence passed away in 1990. She was a homemaker, going to work late in life, working for USD 501 food service at Eisenhower Middle School before retiring. She never had much idle time, she loved camping, fishing, quilting, canning, cooking, bird watching and gospel music. She loved genealogy, which tied in naturally to her love of family.
Her husband Clarence passed away in 1990. Others preceding her in death are her parents; a brother Mike; and two granddaughters, Kathy Frye and Linda Young. Survivors include her children, Kathy Young (Bert), Jerry Hansford (Bett) and Kay Randol; sister, Donna Frost; brother Dick Kasson; nine grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren and longtime friend, Don Sheffer.
Cremation is planned. A memorial visitation will be held on Friday May 17th from 6-8 pm at Davidson Funeral Home. A informal service and family meal will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday at the S & J Trailer Court Club House located at 3637 SE 6th Lot H 10. She will be laid to rest with her husband in Topeka Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Helping Hands Humane Society or to Holton Hospice.
