Bessie E. Carder – Warner, age 95, of Topeka, passed away Thursday, April 25, 2013 at a Topeka hospital. Bessie was born June 18, 1917 in Elmont, KS the daughter of John and Cora Beuoy Cole. She graduated from Meriden High School in 1934. She received her Teaching Certificate from Hutchison Community College in 1936, a Bachelor of Education from Washburn University in 1958 and a Masters Degree in Education with an emphasis in reading also from Washburn University in 1968. She worked as a teacher for Rochester Elementary from 1953 – 1954, Quincy Elementary School from 1954 – 1967 and then worked at the Topeka Reading Clinic from 1967 – 1977. She married Melvin L. Carder December of 1938. He preceded her in death August 3, 1987. She married Francis L. Warner December 11, 1993. He survives. Bessie grew up attending Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church. Bessie later was a member of Northland Christian Church and then Lohman Hill United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Topeka Area Retired School Personnel, Alpha Delta Kappa, Fidelis Chapter and Topeka Women’s Club. Bessie is survived by her husband of over 19 years, Francis Warner of the home; a son, Gerald Carder and his wife, Elaine of Leavenworth; a daughter, Donna Borchardt of Mission, TX; a sister, Ina Di Pietro of Vicaville, CA; 5 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, April 30, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Davidson Funeral Home. She will lie in state Monday from noon – 8:00 p.m. at the Davidson Funeral Home with visitation from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. also at the funeral home. Private interment will be at the West Lawn Memorial Garden’s in Topeka. Memorial contributions can be made to Topeka Area Retired School Personnel, American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association and sent in care of the Davidson Funeral Home.
